Zillah Bingley, Chief Executive, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity said:

"Today is National Bereaved Parents Day. In the past 12 months, 87 of the children supported by Rainbow Trust have died. I am asking you to reflect on the enormous impact the death of a child has on a family. It is unfathomable. At Rainbow Trust we support families with a seriously ill child from diagnosis for as long as they need, through bereavement and beyond.

For 40 years, Rainbow Trust Children's Charity has stood alongside families facing the unimaginable news that their child might die and continues to do so, providing practical and emotional support wherever and whenever it is needed.

This year the theme for National Bereaved Parents’ Day is ‘This is my Place’ helping bereaved parents find a sense of community within grief and ensuring there is space for the memory of every child that dies.

With no central government funding, Rainbow Trust relies on the generosity of the public to ensure families continue to receive the support they need. A donation of just £10 is enough for Rainbow Trust to help a bereaved family create a memory box or £768 could fund six months of weekly bereavement support from one of our expert Family Support Workers."
