On 10 November up to 800 people will take on the UK’s highest stair climb at The Leadenhall Building – also known as The Cheesegrater – to raise money for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity. The Grate48 challenge will see participants race up over 1,200 steps, across the building’s 48 floors finishing over 200 metres above street level.

At the top, runners will receive a well-earned drink and enjoy spectacular views across the Capital.

Grate48 will raise money for Rainbow Trust, which supports over 2,000 families caring for a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. The challenge has been arranged in partnership with Oxford Properties, the real estate arm of OMERS, which has its European headquarters in the building.

Registration for the event is now open. Tickets cost £35 and minimum sponsorship is £160, enough for Rainbow Trust to fund six hours of vital support from a Rainbow Trust Family Support Worker, who provide emotional and practical support to help make life a little easier.

For more information or to sign up for a place and reserve your time slot, check out our Grate48 event page.

A group of elite runners will be first to mount the steps at 4pm, followed by 50 participants at 15-minute intervals until 8pm. Climbers can walk or run up the 737ft high building and will receive a Grate48 branded t-shirt, chip timer, medal and a drink at a post-event reception.

Emma Haines, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at Rainbow Trust, said:

“Grate48 is a unique opportunity for energetic participants to experience the city’s skyline from the top of one of London’s most iconic buildings, whilst raising vital funds for Rainbow Trust. The funds raised from Grate48 will make a huge difference to families caring for a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. We are extremely grateful to The Leadenhall Building and OMERS for their support.”

Sally Saadeh, Director of Marketing and Communication at Oxford Properties said on behalf of the OMERS Leadership Team:

“We are proud to have Rainbow Trust as the OMERS corporate charity and are delighted to host the UK’s highest stair climb at The Leadenhall Building. We hope the challenge will take Rainbow Trust some way towards their annual fundraising target, and enable them to provide invaluable support to even more families.”
