Paying in cash to Rainbow Trust

Thank you for choosing to fundraise for Rainbow Trust, we are so grateful for your support. We rely almost entirely on the generosity of the public to provide our free service to families caring for a seriously ill child.

As a registered charity, we have an obligation to ensure that we follow best practise when handling cash. So we've put together this handy little guide to ensure that as a volunteer fundraiser, you know your responsibility whilst fundraising for us.

Create your own moneybox

Collecting cash donations in person? Why not try our branded money box to let your donators pay in! Download our free fundraising money box and fill it up by completing your fundraising activity.

Once your box is full, please send a cheque made payable to Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity to: Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, Cassini Court Randalls Way, Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 7TW.

Key responsibilities

Here are the key points to remember when fundraising for us and paying your money in:

  • It is illegal for anyone under the age of sixteen to collect money
  • If using a collection tin, keep a track of where they are placed so it is important that you provide us with the address and details of any collection tins placed on our behalf
  • Whether you plan to place a static collection tin on a shop counter, on a desk in a workplace, in a café or in a pub, it should be safely secured using the chain attached and you should seek permission first from the property owner/manager
  • We do not authorise fundraisers to go door to door collecting money
  • You must not put any pressure on members of the public to donate
  • The collection tin must be sealed with a security seal

Counting and paying in your cash

When you have finished your fundraising and need to pay in the cash you've raised, we ask that you count the cash as soon as possible using the following guidelines:

  • Count the money in a safe place with a second person present (who is unrelated to you if possible).
  • When you have counted and recorded your fundraising total, put the cash in a sealed container and keep it in a secure place until it can be banked. It really helps us if you can bank the cash as soon as possible after your event, or after your period of fundraising has finished.
  • Make a note of the total and email your contact at Rainbow Trust to let them know the total collected and details of who we can thank for the donation
  • You must pay us the full amount that you have raised without taking any expenses. The cash can be paid directly into our NatWest account using these details: - Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, Sort code: 60-12-36, Account number: 26100681.
  • Alternatively, you can pay it into a personal/company bank account and send us the total amount by bank transfer, or by cheque made payable to Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity (with a covering letter), or by using the ‘Pay in money raised’ button on our website.
  • If using a collection pot and you would like to use it again, please let us know so that we can send you some new security seals. The old seal must not be reused. If you are not going to use the collection pot again, please return it/them to us at:
