Alexander’s Story

Donate now

Very sadly, Alexander died at the beginning of November at the age of two. Whilst Emma, his mum, had known this wouldn’t be far away, she had hoped that Alexander would be able to spend Christmas with her and Bella, his four-year-old sister.

Emma is heartbroken but wants Alexander to be remembered as the wonderful little boy he was and for his story still to be shared.

Alexander was diagnosed with a rare life-limiting neurological disorder, when he was four months old.

Emma is a single mum. Friends and some members of the family have withdrawn from Emma, so she and the children were isolated, without support. Rainbow Trust’s Family Support Worker Jaimie has been supporting the family since December 2022.

Jaimie reduced stress around the many hospital appointments by driving Emma and Alexander there. She stayed with them, helping to look after Alexander, keeping Bella entertained if she was with them and gave Emma some respite. If Alexander was hospitalised, Jaimie picked Bella up from school and took her to hospital she also gave Bella some one-to-one time to try to make her life as normal as possible.

A few weeks ago, Emma said:

“There isn’t just one word to describe Rainbow Trust. They are amazing. Jaimie brings joy and happiness. She understands. She stops us being isolated. She is always there if I need to talk. And if it wasn’t for Jaimie, I think I would have struggled so much more…”

Jaimie provided emotional support, helped Emma with her anxiety, emotions and fears. Jaimie was also a sounding board for Emma to explore how she would cope with what was to come and the enormity of what she was facing.

And now that very sadly Alexander has died, Jaimie will be there to help with anything that Emma and Bella may need. Emotional support, practical help with funeral arrangements and bereavement support for them both, remembering their precious time with Alexander.
