Help us go the extra mile

Families tell us that it is the small, every day things that make such a difference to how they cope. Months of endless worrying and long waits in hospital puts vulnerable parents under tremendous strain. Families like the Tyler’s depend on Family Support Workers for help…

How far would you go to help terminally ill children?
To the moon and back? We do.

Imagine being told that your child has a life threatening or terminal illness. It is devastating. Sleepless nights and long periods of time away from home and siblings puts immense pressure on the family unit.

Last year, Rainbow Trust Family Support Workers travelled 473,000 miles visiting families and taking them to important appointments – that’s the same distance as going to the moon and back!

Could you help Rainbow Trust put a new Family Support Worker Kangoo van on the road?

We have two new Family Support Workers who need vehicles. A gift from you could mean they can help busy families with school runs, hospital visits, prescription collections, food shopping and funeral arrangements. It’s help with these small things that families like the Tylers appreciate most.

The Tyler family story

Two year old Malachi was diagnosed with muscle hypertonia and an optic glioma. When Malachi started walking into furniture his mum Emma took him to the hospital for further tests. It was a very sad day when the doctors confirmed Emma’s worst fears - he was blind.

It was at this point that the Tylers were put in touch with Tori, a Rainbow Trust Family Support Worker. She saw them at least once a week and helped take Malachi’s brothers and sisters to school. This helps give them a sense of normality amongst all the disruption. When Graham, Malachi’s dad, had a heart attack and wasn’t able to drive, Emma relied on Tori to take her to hospital.

“Over the last year, we have had some dark days and we were thankful that Tori was there to share them with us. During her visits, she spends time with Malachi’s other siblings and has built up such a good rapport with them. I know I can call Tori whenever I need her. I don’t know how we would have survived without her.” Emma Tyler.

The Rainbow Trust Children's Charity Miles of Support Appeal

Through the ‘Miles Of Support’ appeal we hope to raise £14,000 to fund two Kangoo vans for a year – one each for our new Family Support Workers. This will mean support for a further 90 sick children, parents and siblings. Please donate online today and help us to get these new Kangoos soon.
