Meet some of our care team and read about a typical working day
What do you do?
I currently split my time between Rainbow Trust special events eg the flagship annual ball, gala dinners, ladies lunches and PR for the whole organisation.
My new role will be working solely on the PR side of things at Rainbow. I expect to work closely with the families we support; writing up interviews, case studies, appeals and building up our photo and film library. I will also be responsible for helping to raise awareness of Rainbow Trust through press releases and family features in local and national press.
Why did you join Rainbow Trust?
I came from a huge corporate PR firm in London. Although it was a great experience and allowed me to build my PR and event coordination skills, I always felt uncomfortable about working for such a huge firm, where money was never an issue. I knew that I’d love to work for a children’s charity and the position at Rainbow Trust was the first charity job that became available which was absolutely perfect. A mixture of events and PR is my ideal role.
What do you find rewarding?
The most rewarding part of my job is being able to meet and work with the families that we support. It is such an honour when families let you into their lives and talk openly and honestly about their situations. Hearing their stories and how grateful they are to Rainbow Trust, makes me realise how lucky I am to work for such a unique charity.
What benefits are there?
The biggest benefit to me is the staggered hours time system that Rainbow Trust offers. I live over 30 miles away and the morning traffic can sometimes be a real hassle. If I’m slightly late into work, I just have to work a bit later at the end of the day. That flexibility takes a huge pressure off my mind.
What values are important for working at RT?
Everybody here is passionate about what they do, but even more importantly, we all believe wholeheartedly in the work of Rainbow. We’re a relatively small charity, which means that there are often times when we all come together and work closely to deliver and support an event or campaign. Being a team player and being willing to get involved in anything and everything, is important and essential if you want to fit in at Rainbow Trust.
